Researched Writing

Make researched writing less frustrating for you and your students

Research papers are enormously complex.

They require teaching rather than mere assigning.

Encourage students to practice with smaller researched writing assignments before throwing them into the big leagues. We need to teach students the rules of the essay game and give them the opportunity to practice discrete skills in isolation before combining them, especially when the stakes for the final product will count for a significant portion of a course’s final grade.

Assigning annotated bibliographies, one-pagers that engage with single texts, or short essays that put two texts in conversation will help you to avoid the dread that accompanies grading massive and possibly poorly done assignments while lessening students’ anxiety.
